DR. LAUREN WALL (FORMERLY DR. KING)

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Dr. Wall received her undergraduate degree (B.S. in psychology) from West Virginia University. She received her master's and doctorate degrees from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. She completed an APA-Accredited Internship at Eastern Virginia Medical School and a Fellowship in Clinical Health Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. She has worked in a number of settings including hospitals, academic medical centers, psychiatric hospitals, as well as outpatient medical and mental health clinics. Dr. Wall stays up to date on new and innovative techniques used to help people achieve optimal mental health, as well as sleep, physical health, and overall well-being.

Specialized areas of expertise

As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Wall specializes in the treatment of various disorders that affect a person's mental health and well-being. She focuses on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy techniques but individualizes treatment to the specific person. She integrates Acceptance and Commitment therapy techniques as well. She was trained to use evidence-based treatments that prove effective for individuals. For example, for phobias and OCD, she utilizes Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Additionally, she has received highly specialized training in the area of behavioral sleep medicine.

Dr. Wall is one of few in the state of Virginia who is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). CBT-I is an approved method for treating insomnia without the use of sleeping pills. Dr. Wall will work with you to break the bad habits that prohibit you from being able to achieve the deep sleep your body needs to function efficiently. She will also work with your physician to help you taper off sleep medications so you can sleep well and wake up feeling refreshed without the need for medications. Dr. Wall uses this treatment as well as many others to help her patients get back on the path to good health and wellness.
